PACKIN completed the dismantling, relocation, installation, and integration of two packaging flow lines in Schimatari, Greece. The project combined a Signode GCU NG 2500 strapping machine, an Octopus wrapping machine, and conveyors into a unified working system capable of processing 70 to 80 pallets per hour.
Today, in our PACKIN Machines series, we are sharing an especially interesting and dynamic project from our professional practice. The project took place in the city of Schimatari, Greece, and included several key stages:
- Dismantling of an existing flow line Line 1, consisting of a Signode GCU NG 2500 strapping machine, an Octopus wrapping machine, and conveyors.
- Installation of Line 1 in a new position.
- Installation of a new identical flow line Line 2, consisting of a Signode GCU NG 2500 strapping machine, an Octopus wrapping machine, and conveyors.
- Integration of the two flow lines into one unified working system.
What Did We Install?
Our client, a manufacturer of paper products, needed a solution that would ensure maximum productivity. For this purpose, it was important that the integration of Line 1 and Line 2 would support easier operation, greater flexibility, and higher speed in the packaging process.

How Long Did the Project Take?
The full process was completed within an optimal period of 20 days.
Technical Specifics and Characteristics
For the successful installation of this type of flow line, precise positioning was essential, in full compliance with the technical requirements. The principle for flow line installation is that the machines must be positioned according to the sequence of operations.
For safety purposes, a protective fence with locking doors was installed for use while the machines are operating. The machine operator received workplace safety instructions and explanations related to the operation and functions of the machines for their normal use.
In addition to the initial briefing, the employees also completed specialized training for working with the machines and received detailed documentation in the local language.
Each flow line required approximately 50 to 60 square metres of space, or around 11 m x 5 m. The total machine weight is around 12 tons.

Advantages of the Integrated Packaging Flow Lines
Each machine within the packaging flow lines provides multiple operational advantages.
Advantages of the Signode GCU NG 2500 Strapping Machine
Some of the main advantages of the Signode GCU NG 2500 include:
- Simplified machine servicing through self-diagnostics.
- Automatic strap feeding.
- Optimized and highly accurate load compression.
Advantages of the Octopus Wrapping Machine
The Octopus wrapping machine also offers several important benefits:
- Combines strapping and wrapping functionality.
- Can be equipped with different systems for automatic roll change.
- Includes a load stabilizer.
- Provides control over film application force.
Both machine types are designed to reduce maintenance requirements, provide lower energy consumption, and support the overall optimization of packaging processes.
A clear example of the system’s efficiency is its operating capacity. In figures, the result is impressive: the system processes 70 to 80 pallets per hour.

Project Challenges
Ensuring the operational connection required to achieve maximum productivity was a complex process. The two flow lines had to be synchronized because the final packaged product from both lines moves into one unified system.
Another key aspect was tracing the logical start-to-end connection between the lines and the conveyor communication system.
Due to the limited height of the factory, the mechanical relocation of the machines required additional time.
Despite these challenges, the full process of dismantling, installation, and integration of the two flow lines into one system ran smoothly. The technical specifications of the machines were taken into account, and the client’s requirements were successfully met.
Why This Project Matters
This project demonstrates how the integration of existing and new packaging flow lines can significantly improve productivity, flexibility, and process control in industrial packaging operations.
